Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve

Regulations

Visitors are welcome to enjoy the trails in the Preserve daily from dawn to dusk. The grounds and parking lots must be vacated at dusk. To ensure that your visit to the Preserve is enjoyable, we ask visitors to follow District, City, and State ordinances, regulations, and laws.

Stay on established trails only.

Trails are open dawn to dusk on the south side of the Preserve. The area north of the trails is managed primarily for wildlife, including Bald Eagles and other nesting species. In order to protect these species, this area is off-limits to the public.

Keep the Preserve clean.

Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve is a trash free area. Please place all trash in the receptacles located in the Wetlands Education Center. If a receptacle is not available, please take the trash with you.

Leave all natural resources in the Preserve.

The natural resources in the Preserve are protected. Do not disturb animal or plant life in any way. Collecting of any kind is prohibited (including plants, leaves, wildflowers, insects, rocks, animals, etc.). Please leave feathers and bones where you find them. They have a story to tell others when left in their natural setting.

Avoid disturbing others or damaging property.

Patrons are expected to refrain from behavior affecting the safety, peace, and good order of the Preserve and those visiting. Please immediately report any illegal activities or suspicious characters to the police.

Remember that these are prohibited in Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve at all times:

• Bicycles or scooters (bike rack available on-site)
• Motorized vehicles

Leave No Trace

Leave No Trace refers to a set of ethics or principles used by various organizations (including the Boy Scouts of America, National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and Outward Bound) to teach young and old alike tools to preserve our natural and wilderness areas. The basic principles of Leave No Trace are values that the staff at Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve have supported and shared in other terms for years and we are proud to be able to pass on this knowledge through specially developed curricula thanks to REI and Hillsboro Parks and Recreation. For additional information about Leave No Trace Principles please visit the Leave No Trace website.
