Providing interpretive education on wetlands and wildlife, panoramic views, water quality, weather, natural resource management, trails, bird watching, recreation, exhibits, displays and an eagles nest, Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve is a treasure of the Hillsboro community.
Water Quality Monitoring
Water Quality Monitoring
Monitoring at the Preserve
Water quality monitoring stations are deployed at the Preserve: one in the Tualatin River and one in a the Jackson Bottom Slough. The water quality monitoring probes measure these parameters:
- Temperature
- pH
- Dissolved oxygen
- Electrical conductivity
- Turbidity
- Water level
A water quality monitoring station is deployed in the Tualatin River at the Highway 219 bridge. The station is solar-powered
and uses a Campbell Scientific
data logger that is connected to probes in the water. The probes
are a YSI
multi-parameter water quality probe and a water level sensor.
Water quality data are measured and transmitted hourly to the
base computer using wireless telemetry (900 MHz license-free
spectrum).
The YSI probes measure pH, temperature, dissolved
oxygen, electrical conductivity and turbidity (river only).
The level sensor measures the water level by comparing the
water pressure with the atmospheric pressure. A Greenspan water level sensor is used.
